All the music files below are roughly 500k-600k in size (30-40 seconds). I wish I could include the full performances of each piece, but bandwidth and downloading issues make it impossible at this time. Further reduction in size would result in degraded sound quality or musically useless examples.
All music presented below is copyright Paul Baker or is copyrighted by the respective publishers.

Studio Orchestra Big Band Smooth/AC
Studio Orchestra - These three excerpts are from Microsoft Casino I&II and are meant to be representative of the types of music one might hear from an orchestra in the main showroom of each of the three hotels showcased in the game. I conducted a 24 piece studio orchestra at The Fire Station Studios, San Marcos, Texas. Bobby Arnold engineered. It was an exhausting but very satisfying afternoon making music with good friends and getting paid for it!
All Those Things - Studio orchestra salsa. My apologies to Rick Lawn for cutting his alto sax solo short, and my thanks to the musicians of Austin, Texas for a great job.
Bellagio Swing - who says studio orchestras can't swing?!
Joe Beam - Elegant bossa nova suitable for quiet nights and quiet stars.
Big Band - all the music in this section is available for purchase through Dallas Jazz Publications. Contact Galen Jeter for more information about the music and the recordings. Paul is also available for commissions for any size or level of jazz band. Click here to discuss your project.
Bikini Beach - This chart combines the tradition of big band jazz with the energy of 60's rhythm and blues. Based on an AABA "blues with a bridge" structure, there are solos for tenor and baritone saxes as well as electric guitar. Also featured are the sax section in a "Bo Diddley" soli and lead trumpet with a screech solo over the ensemble shout section. Strong 1st and 2nd trumpets are recommended. Several short drum solos fill in the spaces and propel the chart from the beginning to the final chord. Trumpet range to concert "E". Medium Difficulty The full recording is available on the Dallas Jazz Orchestra's CD entitled "Thank You, Leon".
Quiet Time (1) - A ballad that features baritone sax on the melody and an improvised solo during a double-time section. It should be noted that this is not so much a feature chart as an overall composition in which the bari plays an integral part. Also featured is the jazz trumpet with two solos, one in harmon mute and one open. Lead trumpet range is to a written high "E". Medium Difficulty. This is an excerpt from the ballad portion of the tune featuring Alan Beutler on bari sax accompanied by the Dallas Jazz Orchestra. This chart was originally recorded by the DJO on their album "Morning Glory" and is also included on their CD "Scrapbook".
Quiet Time (2) - an excerpt coming out of the solo section in an energetic samba feel which climaxes in the return of the melody with the full ensemble. Note to jazz band directors - the screaming high notes are not written in the chart. They were added in the recording studio and are completely optional. If you've got the player to do it, go for it, but don't let it dissuade you if you don't.
There will be more charts added to this area as soon as I can get recordings made and edited. Please consult the Dallas Jazz Publications catalog for all of my charts.
Smooth - Adult Contemporary - All music was composed and produced by Paul Baker, except "Shanghai" which was co-produced by Gary Powell/Powell Studio Productions. All saxes were played by Paul Baker.
